MAC Ri Ri Collection Purchases & Lipstick Giveaway

I couldn't resist the Ri Ri for MAC collection. The packaging sold it for me, but the actual products are all amazing. The quad eye pallet is probably my favourite thing from the collection, but the mascara is a close second, which is surprising as MAC mascaras are renowned for being shit. I finally caved and bought MAC RiRi Woo lipstick and lip pencil, its the perfect matte red lip for dates *see latest instagram selfie*. The highlighter is very sparkly but perfect for evenings and the contour and blush pallet is pure perfection.

Now for the exciting part, a GIVEAWAY *yay*. I'm giving away the MAC Ri Ri Nude lipstick featured in the image above. If you want to be in with a chance, just leave a comment below and i will enter you into the draw, which will end two weeks from today. Good luck!

It, Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung, It.

This book is one of those that you either get or you don't. I find this book so inspiring, her images and words/tips are a tumblr girls dream. It, reads very much like a diary or scrapbook. I think if you are going to have a read, take It with a pinch of salt. Alexa is funny and honest, but don't over analyse like so many who have already reviewed this have done. Inhale It and move on.

Sheff Hallam lingerie Project with Panache

On Wednesday 1st May the sun came out at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield. It was the perfect setting for Sheffield Hallam University’s finest second year fashion students to present their beautiful lingerie and nightwear pieces that they had produced for the Panache competition. The atmosphere in the Arundel Room was completely electric, filled with anticipation and a huge sense of achievement from both the students and the parents.

As I chatted to each of the fifteen groups, I was overwhelmed by the amount of enthusiasm and positivity that each team conveyed. They had worked incredibly hard to make sure that their underwear and nightwear was perfect and it became even more apparent when one of the groups told me that they had travelled all the way to Paris in order to source the best lace for their piece. What I found most interesting was where each team had got their inspiration from to make the garments. One group in particular had researched into the 1940’s and took inspiration for their underwear from a vintage perfume bottle. It was impressive to see that the students had worked to their strengths, with the majority of the teams acknowledging that one was more confident sketching and creating mood boards and the other cutting and sewing the garment.

Of course as the time drew closer to the winner being announced the students became increasingly nervous and with good reason as the stakes were very high. All entrants were pursuing the highly coveted prize of a £1000 and a work placement at Panache, along with seeing the winning prototypes of their collection being professionally made in the Panache machine room. Although each team wanted to be successful, the solidarity was clear when speaking with the students. It was evident that the teams had pride in one another and that they would be genuinely pleased if another team won - making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

(first HC)
After the judges, Danny Power, Business development Director at Panache, Debbie Morley, Head of Design at Panache and Gemma Champ the editor of trade publication Lingerie Insight had spoken to all the teams and carefully examined all the entrees, they left the room to decide which team should be crowned the winner. The students had produced incredible pieces and the standard was very high, making the decision a difficult one. As a result, the judges decided that in addition to the main prize they would select a further three entrees for a Highly Commended prize.

(second HC)
As the judges walked towards the microphone the room went silent in anticipation. The three Highly Commended prizes were announced. First in this category were Chrissie Smith and Charlotte Markwell for their blue and white bra and knickers with keyhole detail. They won £250 each, a week's work placement at Panache and a professional prototype of the winning garment. Second Highly Commended went to Emma Mortimer, Charlotte Kaufman and Emily Hewitson for their dusty pink and taupe bra and high-waisted knickers. The girl’s took inspiration from Bridgette Bardot and created a variety of inspirational mood boards. They won £150 each and a week's placement at Panache. Third in this category went to Alice Chatburn and Jenna Berks who were inspired by space age and paid particular attention to the film Tron to create a pale grey and white body with mesh top and sleeves. They won £100 each and a one-week placement at Panache.

(third HC)
The suspension mounted and you could have heard a pin drop as the winner of the Panache competition was announced. Congratulations to Zoe Babington and Jenny Myrans who won First Prize for their beautiful emerald satin and black lace bra and high-waisted knickers. The girls were inspired by the 1940’s, paying particular attention to Hollywood actress Rita Hayworth. Zoe and Jenny screamed in joy and hugged one another as their names were announced. The girls were then congratulated by all the other teams who were clearly happy for the well-deserved winners.

(winners)
The event was a fabulous evening and every entry deserves recognition for design and effort, with each piece exceeding all expectations.

The Wake Me Up Foundation

The other week I was browsing Boots. You know how it is. You don't really need anything (I certainly don't, i have enough make up to last me a life time) but you want something new. That's when I came across Rimmel's Wake Me Up foundation. Complacent with my choice i toddled off to the till. After just one week of trialling it I'm completely sold and I just had to let you all know about it! The foundation is such a lovely texture, its similar to the Chanel Vitalumiere foundation i had a couple of years ago that i loved. Wake Me Up is a medium coverage foundation that gives a gorgeous radiant glow and lasts all day. It's perrrfect for summer too because its SPF 15. To top it off its under a tenner.....what a BARGAIN.

You can get it for £7.99 at Feel Unique which is the cheapest i have found online!

Perfume & Polish of the week #1

This week I have been loving Tom Ford Black Orchid and Essie Merino Cool. Black Orchid is the perfect perfume for evening dates because i find the scent to be very sensual. Merino Cool has always been a fave of mine from the Essie collection because of its unusual taupe colour, which is hard to find on the high street.

Along Came Betty: Tan You Tell

It's fare to say that i am very pale right now. I haven't seen the sun for months and i haven't been on holiday for over two years, so sometimes i need a little helping hand to give me a nice healthy glow. The other day i was browsing Tesco when i came across this new fake tan by a brand called Along Came Betty. My friends used to call me Betty and the packaging just seemed so cute....so i put it in the basket and deemed it FATE. It was £4.89 so i have to say i was a bit sceptical at how orange i would turn.....but alas this tan is a gorgeous natural even looking warm colour, which matches what colour i would go naturally in the sun. I guess it says it in the name 'Tan you Tell' at how natural it looks. It also smells lovely and is very moisturising. I used this on my face too, which is very sensitive at the moment and it didn't break me out so in my eyes thats a winner!

I am on the look out for a nice face tanner though as i haven't dabbled with those before... i'm thinking Clarins? Let me know your recommendations.

The contents of my Make-Up bag

Dior Amber Diamond Shimmer Powder, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, MAC Studio Careblend Pressed powder
Nars Laguna Bronzer, Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette
Nars Deep Throat Blusher, YSL Touche Eclat, L'oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, Lancome Le Crayon Khol
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara, Laura Mercier Roman Moon Creme Lip Colour

It goes without saying that my love for make-up is quite substantial... just like my collection. I have a lot. I love it all. I know its sad, but its who i am and its why i am apart of the beauty blogosphere. My make-up bag is quite refined in comparison and i only have my very most loved products in it. Most of the products in my make-up bag i will repurchase again and again because i just couldn't live without them.... and if someone said i had to chose between my collection of make-up or my make-up bag, my make-up bag would win hands down every time. Bye bye MAC eye palettes and lipsticks *waves and sheds a tear*. So i thought it would be nice if i gave you a little insight into my most loved products, so that if you don't already have them, you can go and check them out and maybe fall in love with them, like i have done.

First up i want to talk about NARS. NARS is a fantastic make-up brand and most of the products they sell are brilliant. NARS sheer glow is one of my favourite foundations, but the two products i really couldn't live without are NARS Laguna Bronzer and NARS Deep Throat Blusher. Laguna is the only bronzer that doesn't make me look like an oompa loompa and is pefect for pale skin. Deep Throat is a shimmery pink blush, which sits on the cheeks beautifully and looks very natural. There isn't another make-up brand on earth that does bronzer and blusher like it. That brings me on to Dior Amber Diamond highlighter, there isn't a highlighter like it. I love the look of glowy, healthy skin and Amber Diamond gives you that without looking fake because its such a refined powder. I have found through trial and error that a lot of liquid highlighters (not naming any names) tend to give you an un-natural white glitter stripe and some powder highlighters clog the skin and show off pimples and pores even more.

Laura Mercier is one incredible lady. I use her tinted moisturiser for day time and her  silk creme foundation for night time. Both give you the glow i keep banging on about. I have only just recently dabbled with her lipsticks, but again Roman Moon has gone straight to the top of my most favourite. It is a very wearable orangey red and goes with every skin tone, especially pale.

Lets move on to eyes. I love accentuating my eyes but i try to do it as subtly as i can.  Thats where the Urban Decay Naked palette comes in. It is perfect and it is small. In all honesty i am probably having a little eyeshadow love affair with this at the moment. But i am sure i will go back to my favourite MAC shadows from time to time. Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara is incredible. It's even better than Lancome Hypnose Mascara and thats saying something. It is a very heavy weight mascara but that makes it all the more luxurious. It will make even the smallest of eyelashes look amazing. I think L'oreal do the best liner, Super Liner is a very slim sponge tipped applicator, which is just how i like it. If i am honest, i don't always use this because i much prefer the look of a kohl pencil, which brings me on to Lancome. The crayon is in noir and it is a true black colour that stays put on the water line. What more can you ask for?

So all that is left to talk about is concealer. I love MAC studio finish concealer but i have run out *sobs*. Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer is my second choice and for the price you really can't complain. Lastly and most importantly is YSL Touche Éclat. This is a beauty bag staple for someone like me who is an insomniac and has genetically inherited the biggest darkest circles *cheers mum & dad!*. I put this on when i know pictures are going to be taken and it stops me from looking like a i haven't slept for 4694309 days.

So if you have got to the end of my essay about the contents of my make-up bag then well done you. You deserve a medal of some sort. Anyway i hope that was helpful or insightful and i would love to hear about your beauty staples. What make-up item could you not live without?

London Fashion Week: My favourites

Todays post shall mostly be images of beautiful clothing that i will never EVER be able to afford but what i will always try to recreate from clothes on the high street.

Here are my favourites from LFW:

Felder and Felder
This outfit is the epitome of what i love; skinny jeans, a comfy jumper, a trench and pointed heels.

Erdem
Erdem was by far one of my favourite collections, mixing black/grunge perfectly with feminine lilacs and pinks.

Burberry Prorsum
I am glad to see that the high-waisted midi length skirts are here to stay for a/w 13.

Francesco Scognamiglio
His name might be a mouthful but its ok because his collection was incredible. Every outfit was chic and feminine but with a dark and edgy side. I love this outfit.

Christopher Kane
Sexual silhouette dresses.  Incredible.

David Koma
Understated sexy. The perfect LBD.

Mulberry
Navy trousers and long leather gloves. Perfect for winter. Now all i need is a poodle...

Tom Ford
Bold print maxi dresses. So beautiful.

Let me know what you fell in love with at London Fashion week. From now on i will be buying more trousers and midi skirts and hopefully a gorgeous dress or two.

Gift Ideas: for her

Love it or loathe it, Valentines day is soon approaching. I thought it may be wise to give the male readers of my blog a little help when it comes to getting that perfect gift for the one they love. I'm not being judgemental here, so if you know you are more than competent enough to get the right gift for your lady then WELL DONE YOU! However, if you are completely stuck for ideas and have been that guy who left it to the last minute (forgot) only to run to Tesco and pick the last crap card left on the shelf or a bouquet of shit flowers from the local petrol station, then carry on reading......

Now, what a girl really wants from their husband/boyfriend/fiancé or friend with benefits is to receive something that has been thought about. I can help you, but i can't do it all. So have a think about her personality....is she a girly girl? or does she hate flowers and cheesy stuff like teddies and chocolates? Keep that in mind as we begin:

1. Perfume. A good choice is Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb, it smells very sweet and i haven't met a girl yet who doesn't love the scent. Already got it? Try Ralph Lauren Romance... the perfect perfume for a romantic candle lit dinner. Talking of candles......

2. Candles. If your girl loves to relax then a Yankee Candle is the way forward. Make sure you know what kind of smells she likes, some can be very floral and others very sweet.  I quite fancy the sound of red velvet cake but she may hate it.

3. Jewellery. This is always a good move, especially if it comes in a tiffany blue box. Think about it though, if she has a sparse looking pandora bracelet...then try getting her a love heart charm for it. Or if she loves Swarovski then think about a heart shaped necklace.

4. Roses. There isn't anything wrong with buying your loved one roses. Just make sure you get the right kind of flowers or colour she likes. Also try somewhere like Marks and Spencer Flowers as it may work out cheaper than going to your local flower shop where they charge £5 per red rose.

5. A keyring. This is the perfect gift if you are moving in together. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when its a heart shaped Mulberry key ring its different. Again think about what kind of bag she carries and if it will go with it.

6. Lush.  A heart shaped box full of gorgeous smelling bath products is bound to make her happy. Lush do a wide selection of boxes, so if she is already a fan of Lush try picking out one with the bath bombs she usually buys.

7. Heels. If your girlfriend is into fashion, then how about splurging on a pair of red heels and leaving a little note inside saying "Wear me tonight for our date". Again think about where she shops. Does she love Kurt Geiger? or is she more of a designer chick? NEVER FORGET that nothing says i love you like a pair of red soled shoes. Similarly, you could buy her a little red dress from ASOS for your date......

8. Hotel Chocolat. Does your lady have a sweet tooth? Hotel Chocolat have got it covered with their wide range of valentines chocolates and hampers. Pair this with a romantic dvd and a home cooked meal and you have got valentines day covered for half the price of going to the cinema and a top notch restaurant.

9. A photo frame. Is your loved one a home body? A sweet Valentines gift would be a photo frame with personal words, like this one from Etsy.

10. If your lady loves to read or is a gadget queen, try a Kindle or an Ipad Mini and downloading her a few of her favourite books and music would get you top boyfriend/husband points.

Finally and on a side note..... Nothing says i FANCY THE PANTS OFF YOU....like Agent Provocateur.....
This ones technically a gift for both of you but if your girl loves her underwear then you will probably strike very lucky on the 14th Feb ;-)

I guarantee that this Valentines day you will put a smile on her face rather than tears in her eyes....and probably put yourself in the good books for hmmm at least the rest of the year.

Girls leave me a comment below telling me what your perfect valentines day gift would be and maybe leave this page open for your guy to *stumble* across....A subtle hint wont do your fella any harm! If you aren't loved up right at the minute.... don't forget theres nothing wrong with treating yourself :) x

French Moisturisers

While in Paris i picked up some moisturising skin care products that have been hyped up in the beauty blogosphere recently. The first, Effclar Duo by La Roche Posay is a primer/moisturiser/serum all in one that makes the face feel silky soft and reduces the appearance of pores ready for foundation, not only that but it tackles acne and those annoying little pimples under the skin throughout the day (god send!!). I have to say i do really like this product mainly because of how clear my face is. If you sometimes have problem skin i would highly recommend giving this a go. I really want to trial some more of the Effclar range if this product is anything to go by. The next skin care product i purchased was the Lait-Creme Concentrate by Embryolisse, which is a moisturiser that is used in most make up artist kits. I have to say this took a lot of getting used to because it is a thick white substance that is kind of greasy and takes a long time to sink into my skin properly, but I do like this product and it does make my dehydrated skin feel plump. I just tend to use this as an over night moisturiser, so i don't have to worry about shine.
The good news is that you can actually get La Roche Posay skincare in the UK at Boots. However, Embryolisse is still strictly found only in French pharmacies, but i think you can find a few online stockists and if you are desperate to try it there is always ebay.

The Three Lip-Keteers

I suffer from chapped lips. I always have, especially in winter. If i don’t drink two litres of water a day it is inevitable that my lips will be red, dry and flakey. NOT ATTRACTIVE. So i tend to invest in lip balms all the time. Here are my three favourites, one is reasonably priced (NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Moisturising stick), one is medium priced (Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream) and one is ridiculously priced (By Terry Baume De Rose). All are amazing at making my lips soft but i find these three work best at different times of the day. Confusing i know but let me explain. Reve De Miel is the perfect handbag lip stick because you can use it on the go without thinking, it smells of honey too which i didn't like at first but now i love. Baume De Rose is the perfect lip balm for a date when you do not want to wear a lipstick but want your lips to look plump and kissable. Baume De Rose is thick and nourishing, smelling of (yes you guessed it...) ROSES, which i personally love, but i know some will hate. As for Eight Hour Cream, i usually put this one on before bed as part of my night time skin care routine, its very thick and shiny, which in my opinion is too greasy for wearing out of the house, but it does works like a dream as an over night lip serum. I honestly cannot choose a favourite, they are all perfect in their own way and all work so well at making my lips look smooth, plump and most importantly.... not flakey!

The perfect body combo

I am a girly girl & I love sweet (sickly) smelling things. So every week or two i like to rename a normal day "Beth's at home spa day" and get to work making myself feel pretty. This day for me was on Thursday. Let me set the scene. The hot bubble bath was ready and the Yankee candle was lit. I would like to think that i was so glam dahling that I drank wine or champagne in the bath tub, but i (unfortunately) am not. Never the less I relaxed. Lets be honest ladies, little is more pleasurable than that feeling. Once I had de-fuzzed, I got to work with the Soap and Glory Sugar Crush body scrub. This smells amazing and is a thick substance full of goodness. It makes your legs feel baby soft...Even on your knees. AMAZING. But to top it off, after getting out of the tub an hour or so later, I rubbed in the Laura Mercier Ambre Vanilla Soufflé Body Creme. If you haven't smelt this new addition to the Laura Mercier Body & Bath line, then I highly recommend you do pronto. As the thick substance sinks into your skin, your body instantly smells divine and so soft. Together they make the perfect combination for gorgeous girly skin.
